GUERNSEY'S quest to reach back-to-back women's basketball finals ended yesterday as they were comprehensively beaten by Gibraltar at the last-four stage in Newport.
Pat Ogier's side had been confident of success going into the match, but found the Europeans a bridge too far, although the match was much closer than the final 22-point margin suggests.
That was boosted by a strong Gibraltarian final quarter, which they won 15-6, as Guernsey started to go for broke and were caught out on several occasions, with Zainya Reyes particularly clinical.
Credit to the Sarnians, they battled throughout and showed solid defence, but were up against it from the moment they ended the first quarter with a 15-8 deficit and the outcome was ultimately the correct one.
