THE way new legislation is scrutinised needs to be improved, a lawyer has said.
Advocate Alison Ozanne (pictured) said her experience trying to persuade States members to reject the inheritance law projet de loi had been 'a real eye-opener' on how the system worked.
She thought there should be another stage of scrutiny after the States had approved a set of proposals and when members voted on the final law.
'At present, new laws are reviewed by the Legislation Select Committee after they are drafted by the Law Officers.'
