But a 4-2 extra-time win from the Isle of Wight's best bunch of footballers in many years provided more big-game agony for Tony Vance's men.
For most of the first 90 minutes Guernsey looked like signing off in perfect fashion after Ross Allen's wonder strike.
But things went pear-shaped in extra-time and a bumper Isle of Wight crowd were able to celebrate the perfect end to all their hard work in staging the 14th Games.
