THOUSANDS of people descended on Saumarez Park for an evening of traditional Guernsey food and entertainment at the Viaer Marchi yesterday.

THOUSANDS of people descended on Saumarez Park for an evening of traditional Guernsey food and entertainment at the Viaer Marchi yesterday.

The National Trust of Guernsey event was jam-packed with people by 6pm.

They were entertained with music from GU10 and the Boys' Brigade Band, a re-enactment show by Tol Galen, live action and the traditional costume parade.

There were long queues at the most popular stalls and Viaer Marchi committee chairman Roddy Dudley-Smith said: 'The fine weather makes such a difference. Until last year it had rained for five years in a row.'
