PARENTS of special needs children have questioned the logic behind Education's decision to change the uniform policy for secondary schools.

Wigwam vice-chair Debbie Aldous (pictured) said she planned to contact the department with concerns raised by various members of the group, which supports children with special needs and their families.

Education wants to replace polo and sweatshirts with shirts, ties and blazers.

'The parents think that the children may have difficulty doing up buttons and ties and that it would take away their independence,' Ms Aldous said.

Asked about the concerns, a spokeswoman for the Education Department re-issued the press statement which said St Sampson's High and Le Murier would work together to ensure that any new uniform was appropriate and would be introduced 'sensitively'.
