BOBBY EGGO successfully defended the Royal Guernsey Club Championship yesterday.

The Channel Islands champion (pictured) was under par in both his morning and afternoon rounds to finish on a 36-hole aggregate of 137 to win by seven shots from runner-up Nigel Vaudin.

Eggo returned a one-under 69 in the morning session to lead by three strokes at lunch, with Vaudin, Mick Marley and junior Sam Le Huray all in the hunt thanks to 72s apiece.

The defending champion improved after lunch, however, and carded a 68 to ease clear of field.

Eggo was the only player to register a sub-par round all day, although Greg Tee shot a fine 70 in the afternoon.

Vaudin added a second 72 of the day to finish on 144, two shots ahead of Marley in third, while fellow Guernsey player Sean Mills was on his own in fourth on 148.
