Free pre-schools a victim of the financial crisis

FREE pre-school education for three- and four-year-olds will have to wait as Education is unable to fund the £1.6m. annual cost to deliver it.

However, the department has said it would present interim proposals to the States before the end of this political term.

The issue was part of Education minister Carol Steere's election manifesto in 2008. She said Guernsey was behind the times with its current approach.

She was disappointed that she had not managed to bring in free pre-schools during the four years of this States.
