Trio battle through rain to reach semis

VALE REC'S Aimee Ogier (pictured) together with Nathan Dicker and North's Rob Batiste all mastered the wet conditions at Delancey Park on Saturday morning to gain a place in the Dot Foley Singles semi-finals.

Ogier, a previous winner of the Bowls Guernsey competition for those with up to four years experience, did not bother with her waterproofs and got a soaking yet still managed to win 14 of the 19 ends it took to secure a 21-8 win over GBC's Ken Laine.

Dicker, also from Vale Rec, managed to see off another GBC player, Keith Derry, in 16 ends, picking up a full house and two threes on his way to a 21-9 win.

The closest contest was battled out between Batiste and Vale's John Gill, who traded singles for most of the game until Gill, playing in his first singles competition, managed to pick up a full house on the 21st end to narrow the gap to one.

But Batiste, playing on his home green, won the next four ends to get to the finish line first at 21-16 after having played a marathon 26 ends.

Noel Hodgett went through on a walkover as his opponent has left the island.
