De la Mare sees off Beere in quarters

FAVOURITE Lucy Beere slipped to a surprising 10-shot defeat to Gwen de la Mare in the De Putron Singles quarter-finals.

The score was 4-3 after three ends before a second exchange of three brought the tie to 7-6 in de la Mare's favour.

Beere's double then put her in front but some excellent drawing bowls from de la Mare in the next four ends gave her a 16-8 lead.

Beere collected another three but de la Mare was on top form, her following two-one-two combination ensuring a 21-11 victory.
