A YOUNG boxer's career was under threat today after his jaw was broken when he was attacked in the early hours of Saturday.

Bradley Watson, a 20-year-old flyweight who turned professional just this year, is recovering in Southampton Hospital after having an emergency operation.

The injury means Mr Watson (pictured) might not be able to box for 18 months to two years, according to his local coach, Graham Guilbert.

'He has got a broken jaw and had an operation on it this morning, but I haven't heard anything else,' Mr Guilbert said yesterday.

'His fight in October will be cancelled and I can't see him boxing for 18 months - it all depends on the severity of it but I will know more later tonight or tomorrow.'
