AN ADVOCATE'S gallant attempt to become the first Guernsey person on record to swim around the island had to be aborted after 10 hours in the water on Saturday.
AN ADVOCATE'S gallant attempt to become the first Guernsey person on record to swim around the island had to be aborted after 10 hours in the water on Saturday.
Adrian Sarchet, 36, began his swim at the Castle Breakwater steps just after 8am from where he headed in a northerly direction.
Hours later and battling against tiredness and worsening sea conditions, Mr Sarchet was helped from the water just beyond La Prevote, on the island's south coast, at about 6.15pm.
'It was like a millpond going down the west coast, but it was like turning a switch when we got to Pleinmont and there was a two-metres swell,' he said afterwards.
