De la Mare delight at achieving goal

IT IS the realisation of a dream for Matt de la Mare as he has been named in the Guernsey team to face Jersey in the inter-insular.

The Sarnians are aiming for a third successive victory in the Condor Challenge Trophy match next month, with the 31-year-old Royal Guernsey player the one debutant in the 10-man side picked for L'Ancresse.

'I was absolutely delighted and very excited about it,' said de la Mare (pictured), on hearing the news.

'My goals at the start of the year were to get my handicap down as low as possible and to try and get in the Guernsey team, although seeing as they had won two in a row, I knew that wasn't going to be easy.'
