ONE of the best in the business has been casting his eye over La Grande Mare golf course and passing on advice to the greenkeeping staff this week.

Kevin McGrath is the head greenkeeper of the East Course at the renowned Wentworth Golf & Country Club and he was asked by LGM's agronomist George Shiels to visit Guernsey to act as a fresh pair of eyes to look over the course and offer advice to the staff.

'It is a pleasure to see the course – it has got a lot of challenging aspects,' said McGrath on the final day of his four-day visit. 'It is not a long course, but with the hazards they have it is a real test of golf – it's a thinking course.'

McGrath has been in the business for more than 25 years having started in 1985 with a four-year apprenticeship at Royal Dornoch in Scotland.
