GCSE data should be totally open and transparent, a member of the Education board has said.

Deputy David De Lisle yesterday broke away from his department's official line to say that he saw no harm in releasing information that would enable another comparison with pass rates in England.

At present, the Education Department provides an overall figure based on how many pupils achieved grades A* to C in five GCSEs but, unlike the performance benchmark used in the UK, that does not include maths and English.

Deputy De Lisle (picutred) did not know how much work or resources would be required to make the information publicly available this year, but thought the numbers could be picked up easily.
