A CALL for a new publicity campaign in the UK to prevent the spread of HIV is being backed by a local sexual health doctor.

Lord Fowler, who launched the 'Don't Die of Ignorance' campaign 25 years ago, warned people that HIV and AIDS had not gone away – cases have tripled in the UK in the past 10 years.

Guernsey Sexual Health Unit virologist consultant Dr Nikki Brink (pictured) agreed.

'Advances in HIV therapy over the past 30 years have meant a dramatic improvement in life expectancy and quality, but this has resulted in a degree of complacency and we really need to refocus on prevention,' she said.
