A LEADING lawyer believes a businessman's claim to property owned by the wife of the debt-ridden former Guernsey restaurateur Howard Holland is fraudulent and a sham.

Advocate Peter Ferbrache (pictured) said Stephen Bale was an associate of Mr Holland who only affected his registration against The Cottage, Les Hubits, St Martin's, after the couple's financial problems came to light in the way they did.

In October, the Co-operative Bank was awarded judgement for £356,845.09 against Margaret Holland by the Royal Court. In saisie proceedings in April, the bank was awarded an interim vesting order in her property.

Advocate Ferbrache and wife Glenda also have a registration against the property.

Mr Bale is expected to attend a hearing that has been set for next week.
