He moved to the school following the closure of St Peter Port Secondary in July 2009.
'We are working hard in the school. It's had an improvement plan for years, like every other school, and every year we are asked about our results and how we are going to improve,' said Mr Wheeler (pictured).
Education was forced to reveal in the States on Wednesday that just 12% of La Mare's students achieved five AA to C grades, including maths and English, in 2011.
