Her comments mirrored concerns from other deputies after it was revealed that the department had failed to respond effectively to a slump in GCSE standards.
Former geography teacher Sean McManus said he would have expected both the board and the department to be aware of the strength of the year group well before spring 2010 – when board members claim to have realised targets would not be met.
