A REVIEW of education has the potential to look at all areas of the service, including the department's corporate core, the chief minister has said.

Deputy Lyndon Trott (pictured) responded to concerns over the terms of reference for the important review – instigated following revelations that only 12% of La Mare de Carteret students, and 20% of those at St Sampson's, achieved five GCSEs at C or above including maths and English.

That target is the benchmark used to judge schools in England – they are described as failing if they do not hit 35%.

Questions had been raised about whether the terms of reference would allow reviewer Denis Mulkerrin to investigate the management structure within the Education Department.

But Deputy Trott said the reviewer would be able to look at this area if he thought it necessary.
