ST SAMPSON'S High School is 50 pupils over its capacity just two years after it opened.

And the department has admitted that catchment areas might be adjusted after it carries out a review of the space needed at the proposed redevelopment of La Mare de Carteret.

St Sampson's High, one of two schools at the heart of the falling GCSE results row, was designed to cater for 720 pupils.

Education has confirmed that there are currently 770 students attending.

'The school was designed on the basis of six forms of entry over five year groups with an average class size of 24 so the current pupil numbers mean that average class sizes will have increased by one or two pupils to 25 or 26 – still well-below the Education Department's stated maximum of 30,' a spokesman said.
