EDUCATION cannot afford to cut teaching provision and support for children in an effort to make £1.63m. in savings, a teachers' union has warned.
The comments from secretary of the Guernsey branch of the NASUWT Caroline Bowker (pictured) followed the news that States departments could receive £6.5m. less next year compared to 2011.
And a major chunk of that figure will have to come from just two departments – Health and Social Services, which is set to lose £2.35m, and Education.
The announcement comes at a time when the department's services will come under review following the recent GSCE results saga.
