London resident Delroy Crosbie, 51, was jailed for two years by the Royal Court after pleading guilty to assault and arson.

Advocate Chris Green said his client was shocked and saddened about what had happened. The physical injuries that the woman sustained were not at the higher end of the scale though they would have been uncomfortable for her and there was no previous history of violence in their relationship.

The arson attack was not pre planned, no accelerant had been used, and there was no risk of it spreading. This, said Advocate Green, was a one-off incident of domestic abuse.

Judge Russell Finch said that it had been traumatic for the victim and the probation report said there was a high risk of re-offending.
