GUERNSEY'S under-pressure director of education has resigned – and moved straight into a newly created post, it emerged yesterday.

The man facing questions about his management style and awaiting the findings of an independent review into GCSE results and the education service itself is to take on a planning role.

A new chief officer for Education is being advertised for today but Mr Neale, whose 15 years as head of the department has been dogged with controversy, will spend 'my final few years before retirement' completing Les Beaucamps High and planning for the projected rebuild of La Mare de Carteret.

The changes, disclosed in a letter to colleagues, will concern Mr Neale's critics coming ahead of the independent review of Education by leading academic Denis Mulkerrin, which is expected to be critical of the department and to recommend widespread changes.
