LIGHTNING struck a Flybe aircraft, leaving it unable to fly for days.

The plane was flying the BE312 Exeter to Jersey to Guernsey route and it was on its last leg at 5pm on Wednesday when the incident occurred.

There were 31 passengers on board it at the time.

It is understood that the grounded aircraft had contributed to delays in the arrival of the national newspapers since Wednesday.

A Flybe spokesman said the aircraft had incurred minimal damage, but the company had since been awaiting the delivery of a required replacement part.
