EDUCATION is still holding talks with some universities about the fees they will charge Guernsey students from next year.
The department announced this week that it had struck a deal with Universities UK that would save parents from having to bear the full brunt of the rise in tuition fees, which could cost each UK student up to £9,000 from next year.
Most universities have said that they will charge Channel Islands students the same as those from the UK but the Guernsey Press can reveal that 12 institutions have indicated they will charge different fees.
At present, only one university has said it will charge a higher rate for Guernsey students and in some cases the new fees will be cheaper than they are at the moment.
