LA MARE de Carteret High's new school improvement adviser was invited to meet former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to discuss ways to develop education at a national level, the Education Department has said.

Geoff Cowley, pictured, was head teacher at Gleed Boys' School in Lincolnshire for eight years before stepping down when it merged with a nearby girls' college.

An Education statement yesterday detailed the improvement the school made under Mr Cowley.

It said that school's Key Stage 3 Sats were ranked fourth nationally for sustained improvement and in 2010 it ranked in the top 100 schools nationally for sustained improvement overall.

'As a boy's secondary modern, Gleed Boys' School improved its results to 41% 5+ A-Cs including English and maths and its contextual value added score put it in the top 10% of the country,' the department said.
