EDUCATION minister Carol Steere's position appeared untenable yesterday in the face of calls from politicians and members of the public for her to resign.

Director of education Derek Neale's position and future within the department – managing school rebuilds – has also been called into question.

But on the day a damning report was published, revealing multiple failings within the service, both were unavailable for comment.

Despite repeated requests for an interview, the Guernsey Press was told that Deputy Steere was busy interviewing for a new chief officer.
