THE strange-tasting tap water in large areas of the island this week was caused by the recent cold snap, Guernsey Water has said.
Up to 100 islanders complained about the unusual flavour, which was variously described as irony, bleachy, chemically and disgusting.
The problem was confined to households supplied by the Longue Hougue treatment plant, which serves the northern parishes, the length of the west coast and a small part of Town.
Guernsey Water said its scientists had tested the water and it was safe to drink.
It added that it was working on solving the problem.
