CUTTING financial support for airlines could be counter-productive at a time when Guernsey needs all the routes it can get, Flybe has said.
The operator issued the warning as the Commerce and Employment Department looked set to cut £500,000 from the funding it gives to support airlines and the development of new routes.
Flybe said it understood why the department was examining its budget in this area. But it warned that any savings might be short-lived if airlines were hit too hard.
Aurigny did not wish to comment but a Blue Islands spokesman said an overhaul of the route development scheme was long overdue.
