Retail sector is most popular with school leavers

RETAIL has taken over as the largest employer for Guernsey's school leavers.

The Education Department released its school leaver statistics for 2011 earlier today, highlighting the destination of all 16 to 18-year-olds who decided not to continue in education.

Retail, finance and construction were the three most popular employers.

The retail sector outweighed finance by more than 5%, with 20.1%.

The 2010 figures showed finance sector was the largest employer with 23% of students in work, compared to 22% in retail.
