GUERNSEY'S population has grown by 484 people.

And if current trends continue, the current population level of 62,915 would have grown to about 70,000 in 2035.

The figures were released in the Policy Council's annual population bulletin this morning, which says that the increase was driven mainly by 'net migration'.

Housing licence figures were also announced.

There were 300 essential employment-related licences issued during the year ending 31 March 2011.

This is higher than 2010, 255, but lower than in earlier years.

There were 1,913 short-term employment-related licences issued, although Housing has excluded from this figure 324 short-term licenses issued to staff brought over by Waitrose during the fit-out and start-up phases of its two stores.

This is higher than in 2010, when 1,874 were issued, but again remained lower than in previous years.
