GBK to close

GOURMET Burger Kitchen will shut just six months after it opened its doors in Guernsey.

The franchise in the Channel Islands was held by Sandpiper, which has confirmed that it would close the Guernsey and Jersey restaurant on Good Friday.

About 15 people were employed in part-time or full time positions in Guernsey, but Sandpiper believes that most if not all will find work elsewhere in the group.

The outlet in Market Square seated more than 120 diners.

'We thought GBK would work and have been doing a lot to make it happen like advertising, two-for-one offers, but it has just not taken off,' said a Sandpiper spokesman.
