IMPLEMENTING recommendations from the Mulkerrin Report is a great opportunity for the Education Department to get the service back on track, the new chief officer Jon Buckland said.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday Mr Buckland, pictured, said putting 49 actions, derived from the report, into practice was the way forward.
The department's recommendations and conclusions include:
School committees could be scrapped in favour of governing bodies.
Head teachers will have a larger role in the recruitment of staff in future, but will not have total control.
Despite having merits, it would be too difficult to introduce an 'excellent teacher scheme' due to the constraints of the Housing Control Law.
The time taken for the 11-plus examination process is likely to be streamlined.
A 'Guernsey' version of local management of schools will be introduced.
