The number of people out of work in Guernsey fell by 16 last month.

But the latest total does not include all of those who have been, or may be, made redundant following the result of the LVCR High Court case in London and the subsequent changes made by companies with fulfilment centres in the island.

There were 416 people unemployed at the end of March, a decrease of 16 on the February figure. This represents 1.3% of the working population on the ILO definition of unemployment.

At the end of March 2011, the number was 301.

'The drop in unemployment, although small, is very welcome at this generally difficult time' says Deputy Mark Dorey Social Security Minister.

'The March unemployment figure does not yet include people who may become redundant following the ending of LVCR. We do know that some people from the fulfilment industry will be registering as unemployed during this month.'
