Teachers have pay system related to performance already

PERFORMANCE-RELATED pay for teachers already exists - it just needs to be better managed, a union representative has said.

A spokesman for the NASUWT said yesterday that Education's pledge to review its system of performance management was welcomed.

But she added that linking it to pay was something that was already practised by the department.

'Performance management already dictates whether teachers get a pay increase,' she said. It was not about punishment but teacher enhancement.
