As GBK closes, what will replace it in Market Square?

A NICHE market, good competition and high prices may have resulted in Gourmet Burger Kitchen's closure, shoppers said yesterday.

The Sandpiper franchise, which opened only six months ago, shut its doors for the last time yesterday.

Town Centre Partnership executive officer Jack Honeybill thought the restaurant catered for a niche market.

'But one would assume they would have looked at the market before they arrived.

'I think anybody who goes there in future has to bear in mind that turnover is very important and using all their covers is a necessity.'
