MORE than 50 people have signed an online petition opposing the Guernsey College of Further Education's plans not to start another BTEC level three engineering course from September.
The extended diploma in manufacturing engineering has enabled students to prepare for careers in local industries, such as power generation engineers and architectural technicians. Others have progressed to university from it.
Principal Trevor Wakefield, pictured, said despite a record year for applications generally, only five people were expected to attain the grades that would enable them to embark on the level three course.
'Unfortunately, five students is not enough for a viable group,' he said.
The college has agreed to review the situation in the coming weeks and anyone interested in engineering who has not yet applied to enrol on the course is asked to contact it as soon as possible.
