FINAL salary pensions, silo mentality States departments and inequality in society were all issues raised at the St Peter Port South hustings yesterday.

Roughly 150 people turned up to hear 10 candidates make their bid for one of the six seats on offer.

Other issues covered included the diversification of Guernsey's economy, population, planning regulations, education and the road transport strategy.

And there was standing room only at the first of the South-east district's hustings at St Martin's Parish Hall last evening.

All 240 seats were filled by electors keen to see the 10 candidates.

The event, chaired by former deputy and conseiller Roger Berry, covered a wide range of issues, including paid parking and sewage treatment, as well as buses and the douzaines' roles.

A second South-east hustings will be held in Blanchelande College hall at 7.30pm tomorrow to ensure St Andrew's residents can have their say.
