DEPUTY Lyndon Trott has become the first member of the new House to formally put his name forward for the position of chief minister.

His nomination was announced this afternoon. He has been nominated by Roger Perrot and seconded by Dave Jones.

Re-elected Castel member Jonathan Le Tocq has confirmed his own nomination. He's proposed by Gavin St Pier and seconded by Mark Dorey.

The fact that Deputy-elect Dorey has seconded the nomination rules him out of the running; there had been speculation that he would be standing himself.

Nominations have to be made by Monday with the election due to take place on 1 May.
