A THREE-CAR smash on the west coast last month, in which a baby was injured, was caused by a woman motorist bending down to pick up her purse that had fallen into her foot well.

In the Magistrate's Court, Ann Morris admitted driving without due care and attention.

She was fined £400 and taken off the roads for four months.

Judge Philip Robey said it was a very serious error of judgement and bordered on dangerous driving.

He initially imposed a six-month driving ban but reduced it to four when he learnt of Mrs Morris's severe respiratory problems, which require regular medical attention.
