School vacancies remain a secret

EDUCATION will not release details on which primary schools are over- or under-subscribed until it has completed a review of the sector, the department has said.
Following the release of the Mulkerrin report into primary education, which said that based on pupil teacher ratios there were 800 empty school places, the Guernsey Press sought a breakdown of where the empty spaces were.
But the department has said that, because of ongoing work with the Financial Transformation Programme to develop a business case, it did not feel it appropriate to provide the details.
'The need to look at the rationalisation of the primary sector has not only been recognised by Mr Mulkerrin but was also identified by the consultants managing the Financial Transformation Programme,' said a spokeswoman.
