AGREEMENT has been reached to set up an 'aircraft registry' with potential to bring spin-off benefits to the island of about £18m. in the first three years.
Registry activities would include safety oversight of all aircraft and applying safety standards on a par with the highest in the world - those of the EU and the USA.
It is expected to achieve 150 Guernsey-registered aircraft by 2015.
Resident aircraft owners and operators from the Channel Islands will form the initial primary group of users.
On behalf of the States, the Commerce and Employment Department signed a contract on 30 April with SGI Aviation for the development and operation of an aircraft registry in the Bailiwick.
