LA MARE de Carteret's new head teacher has acknowledged that the school must accept responsibility as a new GCSE blunder has put the future education of nine students in jeopardy.

But Vicky Godley and Education minister Robert Sillars were yesterday resolute that their focus had to be assisting 112 students plug significant gaps in their information communication technology coursework.

The oversight means that nine students, who were reliant on the qualification to obtain five GCSEs to progress to higher education or to go on to further ICT courses, have just weeks to keep those hopes alive.

Mrs Godley said the school would do everything it could to help.
