A TILER accused of stealing from a customer's home claimed the woman set him up because he had rejected her advances.

Jose Salgado denies stealing a quantity of jewellery belonging to Sandra Ayres from Cirrus, Clos du Mon Plaisir, St Peter Port, on 12 September 2011.

Mrs Ayres denied all of Mr Salgado's allegations.

In the Royal Court, Crown Advocate Fiona Russell said Mrs Ayres had reported jewellery missing from her bedroom on the day Mr Salgado began working there.

Mr Salgado, who represented himself, said he had not taken any of the items found in his van.

He said the prosecution's case was illogical and he believed that he must have been set up by Mrs Ayres, who was angry at him after he declined her invitation to sleep with her. He said she made advances on the first day.
