BLANCHELANDE College will have to pay out almost £30,000 to two members of staff after losing employment tribunals that included a case of breaching sex discrimination laws.

It is the first time the figures have been revealed as the panel released details of their findings in the claims brought by Brian Fox and Anne Deane.

In Mrs Deane's case she was awarded £4,316.84 - the full amount available - for unfair dismissal after the college did not contest the case.

But the findings in maths teacher Brian Fox's case are at times an indictment of the way the school conducted itself and call into question the evidence given to the tribunal by its principal.

It will have to pay out £16,315.74 for dismissing Mr Fox for reason other than redundancy, and £8,157.87 for breaching sex discrimination legislation.
