DEPUTY John Gollop is the new States' Champion for Disabled People. The result of the election was announced last night at a Guernsey Disability Alliance meeting.
Deputy Gollop defeated Deputies Arrun Wilkie and Lester Queripel, winning 60% of the votes cast.
'The announcement was greeted with a huge wave of warmth and enthusiasm at tonight's GDA meeting, ' said Guernsey Disability Alliance chairwoman Shelaine Green. 'John is a true "man of the people" who has Asperger syndrome himself and therefore has a deep personal understanding of the barriers that disabled islanders face.'
