A BLUE ISLANDS aircraft travelling from Guernsey has crashed on landing in Jersey.

The under carriage of the ATR, which was carrying 40 passengers, collapsed after it made contact with the ground at 8.23am today.

All passengers and crew escaped and there have been no reported injuries. The Jersey Airport runway was closed off and flights were suspended.

Jersey Airport communication manager Alan Donald confirmed all emergency services attended the scene.

'I believe the under carriage collapsed while it was taxiing to its stand,'

he said.

A Blue Islands spokesman said the aircraft landed safety.

'After landing, upon taxi, there was an unknown mechanical failure with the left hand landing gear,' he said.

'All forty passengers onboard have disembarked the aircraft safely and now left Jersey airport with their baggage. We are currently working with AAIB to fully understand the facts of this unfortunate matter. A full investigation into the incident is underway. The incident was well managed and controlled by our crew who made sure the passengers were safely and quickly escorted from the aircraft.'
