PLANS are afoot to raise the standard of housing accommodation locally.

Environmental Health Department director Val Cameron told a meeting of The Guernsey Private Residential Landlords Association last night that existing legislation was no longer appropriate.

The Public Health Law, which was drawn up in 1934, was intended to stop the spread of infectious diseases and was out of date in terms of housing.

'There's a huge body of evidence about the link between health and housing conditions,' she said.
