A SARK carriage driver has questioned the future of his industry after a Swiss pensioner was killed when a carriage overturned.

Danny Wakley, 53, said he hoped Tuesday's tragic accident, in which a further eight people were hurt, had not 'destroyed tourism' for the island and people would still visit.

He has been in the profession for 37 years and said he had never seen anything like this before.

'This is first time in around 150 years that someone has died from a horse carriage, so it shows they are pretty safe.

'A lot of people are upset about it but we just hope it doesn't destroy the tourism,' he said.
