Len and Alex share their jungle warfare experiences

A VETERAN of the war in the Far East yesterday shared experiences with a serving soldier and examined photos and medals.

Lance Bombardier Alex Knowelden, of 29 Commando Regiment, is visiting his home island as part of Armed Forces week.

Among the veterans he has visited here was Len Shorto, 86, who, like Lance Bombardier Knowelden, has experienced jungle warfare.

They talked about the changes that have occurred with weapons and uniforms since Mr Shorto was serving. He spent time in the Far East between 1944 and 1948 and Lance Bombardier Knowelden spent time in Sierra Leone in 2006.
